Seeing as the Paper Mario Series it practically infinite (no end as there are multiple storylines) and this does not go against anything specifically said in any Mario games, I think this may count as a continuation.

To be honest, the TVTropes page needs a huge rework and update. I think the last time it was updated was around the time Snifs was introduced to the story. A lot had happened since then.
