Dire Dire Situations
Due to a the fact Dire is so mysterious, and we really know nothing about it, talk about it can go on for a long period of time. Personally, I think keeping Dire to this thread's conversations might be a good idea.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
I was skyping with tB earlier, and she told me that what a lot of people don't get about Dire Humor is its most literal definition: power, but at an incredible risk. Yes, power is good. But it's not something we need in the first chapter of the game.
Think of it like this: Imagine if you could use a certain cheat to get infinite HP/FP/BP and all badges in either of the first two Paper Mario games. The cheat has a small chance of crashing the game because it isn't sanctioned by Nintendo.
If you use it and it succeeds, congratulations, you're unstoppable. But part of the fun of any game is the challenge. Make a game too easy, and you'll get bored with it, no matter how much fun it is. It's the challenge that makes people want to play games over and over and over again. Also, if there's a chance that the cheat will render your game unplayable, why would you want to risk that just for power that would get old soon anyway?
That's my two cents on it, at least.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
Huh, You know I forgot all about that myself. The fact that it is power that they get.
It would probably be the reason that the Shadow Queen needed the crystal stars to be defeated, both times. She just had much too much power!
And definately, if you can curbstomp the entire game without fear, what fun is that.

Yeah, I can't image any good game or story that has a game breaking mechanic. Stories are about conflict after all! I have to wonder how it'll effect BB though...

Well, we know he's not insanely powerful ALL the time, having taken damage and lost in battles. But we know he has a bit of a shady past....

Like I said before, I believe that maybe BB may have some sort of Trigger, and that we just haven't seen it yet. I can only wonder what it is.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
If he has a trigger, maybe the dire is sealed inside a capsule? A very rare and very tiny one. Also, for the metaphor, I think it should be an insanely high chance that it crashes the game seeing how threatening they shopkeepers make Dire sound.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
My bet is that it's the cliche in which the main character has their dark self and their light self, eventually the dire will escape BB whether by force or not and will manifest into some other thing, possibly the REAL true enemy of the adventure. I don't know, just a thought.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
By 'trigger,' I believe Harvest was referring to how one of the potential consequences of having Dire Humor is a berserk trigger.

Yeah, Truebugs got it right. I mean it seems the most logical when you notice how normal BB is yet he is wanted for some action. I think that trigger was tugged and BB did something terrible.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
Whatever trigger that may be, one thing is for sure. That Dire is in his Shine humor, not on his Mend one.
If it was on Mend he could become a jealous green eyed monster, but it isn't. It's in someplace worse.
Shine is optimism, innocence, happiness, and madness.
Dire brings out the worst, always. With power comes hard control for it.
Mix Dire with Shine and we got Madness.
What could B.B have possibly done in his state of madness completely escapes me. Sometimes I don't even want to know.

Maybe, maybe the world around him is actually horrible, but we are Seeing Through the Eyes of Madness. By trying to do good deeds he's actually making things worse.

Wouldn't that make it a first-person perspective and not a 3rd person one that we have now? Besides, we've been in control of other characters before, if that were the case I doubt that'd be allowed.
It should be noted that I am tired and probably completely misunderstanding this.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
Given what we know about him, and the fact that he's aware of his terrible past, I'm cashing in on the Beserk Trigger bandwagon.
Which would also make sense for the future vision we saw. Maybe he did something so terrible that the group of characters considers him a threat to have around.

Yeah, I think it's a berserk trigger.
And, about that, maybe his music box is the thing able to make him get out of that berserk mode ?

Re: Dire Dire Situations
You know? I thought about it and the music box as a calmer might be it.
But wait...Clyde has been protective of B.B obviously as a friend, but what if he is not protecting B.B at all...he is protecting everyone else from B.B.
Giving him comfort to calm him, and stuff.
Heck, what if the fleshy part of B.B is a counter measure, as a way to actually stop him cause if he could be intangible forever, thinki of the things he could do while berserk?
I mean, he could literally pass trough you and rip your heart out like shadow cat or something.
Maybe.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE MUSIC BOX
It could definitely be a calmer. He just spaced the spook out last time we heard it play.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
Before the Dire in B.B. was discovered, I thought perhaps his half-fleshiness could be the result of someone who only partially died. I'm not really sure what form that would take, but... Anyway, my new suspicion is that Booboo has two forms. One is his boo self, and the other is something totally solid, and totally insane. The second is the effect of dire.
My two cents.

Re: Dire Dire Situations
Yeah, maybe that was Clyde's original intent with BB. But our chart shows that it has grown into a good friendship at least.
That would be interesting if the music box is a clamer...Do you think it may be humor infused?

Re: Dire Dire Situations
Or something entirely different, one thing for sure, it is special.
Wait, what if that's our quest, to make B.Vb wish upon the everclear star to remove his Dire.
Hmmm?

Or the dire could absorb the power of the Everclear Stars, that could also be a thing.

You know you just made it 9000 times worst right?
If Dire is power soulified then what would Dire with the everclear star would do? It corrupts.....

Re: Dire Dire Situations
I would not want to see an Everclear Star corrupted by Dire, that's for sure.
And maybe the music box isn't infused with flow or something we haven't seen. Perhaps it's actually infused with DIRE and every time it turns on the Dire within him grows, putting him into a trance the whole time.
